The concept of Owning Well™ stems directly from our experience as professional organizers. After years of helping clients clear out their closets and make decisions about each item in there we started to ask ourselves How do we end up with so much stuff we don’t use?

Our team has spent hours sipping coffee and debating this very issue. It could be that people shop carelessly or too much or that humans are sentimental creatures that hang onto clothes, books, and papers for the memories. It is sort of in our nature to see empty space, like a closet, and want to fill it. And it makes us feel safe, happy and secure. But is there another way?

Usually, it’s a combination of all of these. And that’s okay! We don’t have to change our core nature in order to address the root of chronic disorganization. We just have to focus on what’s coming in the door versus what’s going out.

The key to Owning Well™ is doing research, practicing mindfulness, and being honest about the things we own. In order to do that, we must know that something works for us before we purchase it and take care of it so it lasts as long as possible. We have to learn how to know when we are finished with the item and it is time to let go.

We call this a practice because it does not happen overnight. Unlike other professional organizers, we are not about tips, tricks, or overnight cures. But with persistent effort, these habits will create a consciousness around what your own, which will let you make thoughtful choices about what to bring home. And, of course, we’ll help you clear out the mess.

Gone will be the days of overstuffed closets, overflowing hobby bins, crowded home offices. Soon your home will be a perfectly functioning ecosystem. Your home will be a sanctuary again, a place infused with calm and creativity.
