Fall Entryway Challenge

Want to Get Organized?

The entryway and mudroom are the busiest zones in most homes. As fall and winter arrive, these spaces get overloaded with coats, books, backpacks and wet-weather gear. Without a system, they quickly turn into drop zones of chaos.

That’s why we’re inviting you to join our Fall Entryway & Mudroom Challenge – a simple step by step reset to get these high traffic spaces ready for cooler months.

Don’t have an entryway? You can still participate! In fact, setting up systems may be even more important in homes that don’t have the luxury of designated areas for winter gear. Just apply the following tasks to the spaces you use to store your cold weather items.

Each day, you’ll complete one simple task. By the end of the week, your entryway will be more organized, functional and welcoming.

  • Remove anything that doesn’t belong in the entryway
  • Return items to their proper homes
  • Wipe down any surfaces and sweep/vacuum the floor for a fresh start
  • Sort through summer sandals and sneakers – store the ones you’re keeping and donate or trash the rest
  • Designate a space for fall/winter boots and shoes
  • Use a shoe rack, mat, or basket to contain daily pairs
  • Pull out coats, jackets, hats and gloves for all family members and bring them to the entryway
  • Donate what no longer fits or isn’t loved (if you’re undecided, remember cold weather gear is always needed by those less fortunate)
  • Assign hooks, containers or cubbies for each family member
  • Add a tray for keys, a basket for mail and a hook for bags
  • Use labeled bins for each child’s school or sports items
  • Keep it simple – complicated systems are less likely to be followed by your family members
  • Place a boot tray by the door to catch mud and snow
  • Add a cozy rug or doormat for warmth and function
  • Include a small decor item (pumpkin, dried flowers, a candle) to make the space inviting

By breaking the project into bite-sized daily steps, you’ll transform your entryway without feeling overwhelmed. At the end of five days, you’ll have a space that’s both efficient and welcoming all season long.

Small, consistent steps lead to big changes. Start today and in one short week, your entryway will be ready for fall and winter living.
