Best Professional Home Decluttering Services in Brooklyn

Brooklyn apartments, while being some of the largest on average in NYC, will still clutter faster than those just to the east in Long Island suburban homes. Done & Done Homes, a professional home decluttering service founded and operated by women, has over 10 years of experience helping Brooklyn residents declutter and learn to love their homes again.

Estate Management

When people come to us for help with a move, our best advice is to declutter before a single box is packed. So when a couple in Cobble Hill reached out for our assistance, we were able to edit, sort, and tag all of the items in their home. Many things were set aside for donation and the things that were heading to their new apartment were labeled clearly to give them a head start on their upcoming move.

Our Brooklyn Decluttering Jobs

Our Process for Home Decluttering

Sometimes, getting started on a decluttering project is the hardest part—that’s where we come in. Whether you have a spacious townhome with a basement or a cozy apartment, the fundamentals of decluttering remain the same. We assess your space, learn about your routines, and develop a plan to help you let go of items you no longer need, use, or love.

Our expert team handles everything from sorting to organizing, ensuring your home feels renewed and functional. Even if you have extra room in a basement, attic, or storage unit, we find that simply having more space often leads to a bigger buildup of unused items. That’s why our in-person strategy is just as essential for a large house as it is for a studio apartment.

If you’re short on time or simply don’t want to tackle decluttering on your own, we’re here to do it for you. We’ll coordinate donations or storage arrangements and can provide a detailed inventory of any items placed in storage. Our approach keeps you from getting bogged down in the details so you can enjoy a comfortable, clutter-free home—no matter the size or layout.

Here are a few questions we’ll have you start thinking about when we work to declutter the common spaces in your home:

Kitchen
  • How often are you cooking at home vs ordering out?
  • Do you genuinely enjoy cooking or do you do it out of pure necessity
Pantry
  • Who typically does the food shopping for your family?
  • Who puts the groceries away?
  • Do you have children that independently take food from your pantry?
  • Do you have room to store backstock when purchasing in bulk?
  • How many dishes/cups/mugs do you actually use?

Clothing
  • Is getting dressed in the morning a hassle?
  • Do you have room in your closet/dresser for all your clothes?
  • Do you get use of all the shoes in your wardrobe?
Bathroom
  • Can you access your everyday products easily?
  • Are you constantly moving things around?
  • Are you holding onto products because you feel guilty throwing them out?
  • How often are you using the products you have?
  • Can you recall all the products you own easily?

Benefits of Decluttering

There are endless benefits to decluttering that include better mental health, increased productivity, and less overconsumption and waste. Here are a few ways that having a clear space can ultimately lead to having a clear mind:

Mental Health

Getting rid of the clutter in your home can help increase your mental health tremendously. Living in a decluttered space is proven to reduce stress and increase productivity. Many studies have found that organized environments can also be linked to making healthier choices – It’s easier to prepare healthy meals for yourself and your family if you have an organized kitchen that’s easy to navigate. It’s also easier to get a restful night of sleep in a neat room. Seeing the changes that we’ve helped you to make around your home once decluttering a space will also help you feel accomplished and lead to higher self-esteem.

Less Waste

There are only so many products a person can use and so many shoes a person can wear. Decluttering areas like underneath the bathroom sink, for example, will help you to see how many products you currently have vs how many you’re actively using. Decluttering will not only help you organize your space and your products, but will also impact your future buying choices.

We recently worked with a very busy mom in Brooklyn Heights who needed a top to bottom sweep of her home. Between her job and her kids, her house had taken a back seat and was an enormous cause of stress. In one day, our team was able to tackle every problematic area and set up lasting systems so she felt confident in her ability to maintain her home moving forward.

Organizing Products for Pros: How We Utilize the Best Tools

One of the things we’re most proud of as professional organizers is our ability to not only help you declutter your space, but to create a system that you’ll be able to stick to over time. Here are a few examples of some of the amazing organization tools that we utilize to help you not only make the most of your space, but create a functional system overtime:

Do we want to link any of these or does that just take them away from our site?

Underbed Storage Bags

Utilizing the space under your bed will help you keep things from looking cluttered visually. These bags have handles so they can slide out for easy access to your things. They’re thin enough to fit under almost any bed frame and can be used to store just about anything.

Some ideas include:

  • Seasonal clothing (coats, scarves, bathing suits)
  • Gift wrapping (bags, tissue paper, bows)
  • Linens (extra bedding and towels)

Storage Ottoman

Ottomans can add a cozy and comfortable feeling to your living space, but unfortunately take up floor space that most homes in Brooklyn don’t have to spare. These ottomans are multi-functional, adding both comfort and additional storage that’s easy to access.

These can be great for:

  • Throw blankets and decorative pillows
  • Children’s toys and books
  • Stuffed animals and pet toys

Over The Door Storage

Utilizing the inside of your doors for additional storage is especially helpful in small spaces that often don’t have many cabinets and closets. This over-the-door organizer is great because the shelves are a functional size for no matter what you want to use it for (rather than others that are designed specifically for shoes, clothes, etc).

These would be especially helpful for:

  • Clothes (sweaters, sweatshirts, shoes)
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Baby products (diapers, wipes, products)
  • Kitchen items (ziplock bags, tin foil, napkins)
